Anthony N. Ottaviani, DO, MPH, MACOI, FCCP, is a graduate of the Kansas City University - College of Osteopathic Medicine. He served a Rotating Internship, one-year Anesthesiology Residency, and Residency in Internal Medicine at Detroit Osteopathic Hospital System. He entered a Fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at Wayne County General Hospital/University of Michigan completing the Fellowship at the University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine. Upon completion of his program, he was appointed as a Clinical Assistant and then Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine for the Morsani College of Medicine. 

Dr. Ottaviani has been involved in medical education since 1974. He served as the Chief Academic Officer (DIO) for Sun Coast Osteopathic Hospital from 2000 to its purchase in 2008 and was appointed the founding Chief Academic Officer (DIO) for Largo Medical Center where he oversaw program growth from 44 residents and fellows to 130 residents and fellows, 14 programs and a 160 faculty. Dr. Ottaviani is also the founding Program Director for the Pulmonary Critical Care Fellowship at Largo Medical Center. Dr. Ottaviani attributes this program growth to his GME office staff and the excellent program directors he experienced. 

He served as Regional Dean for Nova Southeastern University West Coast Academic Center and is a Clinical Professor of Medicine at Nova Southeastern University Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine. 

He was an initial member of the AOA/ACGME review committee for the Single Accreditation System, served as President, Consortium for Excellence in Medical Education - CEME (OPTI), Nova Southeastern University, Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine for the State of Florida, Medical Director of the St. Petersburg College Respiratory Care Program from 1993 to present. 

Dr. Ottaviani is a Fellow of the American College of Chest Physicians, and a Master Fellow of the American College of Osteopathic Internists (ACOI). He was elected President of the ACOI in 1999 and a member of the ACOI Council of Education and Evaluation, AOA Council on Continuing Medical Education, and the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (COCA). 

Dr. Ottaviani has served on the Board of Trustees for the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association and was elected President in 2008. He is the Chair of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association Delegation to the AOA House of Delegates from 2014 – Present. He served on the Board of Directors of the American Osteopathic Foundation and was elected president in 2014.

He is on the Board of Trustees of Nova Southeastern University and the Board of Governors of the Health Profession Division where he serves as the Vice Chairman of the Board of Governors of Health Profession Division. 

Dr. Ottaviani has been recognized with the AOA Distinguished Service Award, the highest recognition of the AOA at the AOA OMED National Convention held in Las Vegas, NV in 2014. He has been recognized by the FOMA, ACOI, and PCOMS as the Internist/Physician of the Year and by the FOMA, Nova Southeaster Board of Governors, and Board of Trustees with the Distinguished Service Recognition. FOMA and PCOMS recognized him with the Lifetime Achievement Award.

Nova Southeastern University, College of Osteopathic Medicine, recognized him with the Medal of Excellence Recognition. Mid-Pinellas Chamber of Commerce recognized him with the “The Citizen of the Year Award” in 2016.

He was in private practice of Pulmonary and Critical Care Medicine with Sun Coast Internal Medicine Consultants, a multispecialty group in Largo FL for over 40 years. Dr. Ottaviani currently is the Executive Director of the Pinellas County Osteopathic Medical Society.

A prominent pulmonologist, Dr. Ottaviani is a distinguished figure in the field of osteopathic medicine, contributing significantly to medical education and practice. 

Before embarking on his professional journey, he graduated from the Kansas City University – College of Osteopathic Medicine. After completing his Rotating Internship, one-year Anesthesiology Residency, and Residency in Internal Medicine at Detroit Osteopathic Hospital System, he pursued a Fellowship in Pulmonary Medicine at Wayne County General Hospital/University of Michigan completing the Fellowship at the University of South Florida, Morsani College of Medicine.

Passionate about his profession, Dr. Ottaviani is board-certified in pulmonary disease and internal medicine by the American Osteopathic Board of Internal Medicine (AOBIM). AOBIM is the organization that provides board certification to qualified Doctors of Osteopathic Medicine (D.O.) who specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disease in adults.

Following the completion of his Fellowship program, the doctor was appointed as a Clinical Assistant and later a Clinical Associate Professor of Medicine for the Morsani College of Medicine. Driven by a passion for medical education, he has been involved in this field since 1974. He served as the Chief Academic Officer (DIO) for Sun Coast Osteopathic Hospital from 2000 to its purchase in 2008, playing a pivotal role in its growth.

As the founding Chief Academic Officer (DIO) for Largo Medical Center, Dr. Ottaviani oversaw substantial program growth, increasing the number of residents and fellows from 44 to 130, spanning 14 programs and involving 160 faculty members. Additionally, he served as the founding Program Director for the Pulmonary Critical Care Fellowship at Largo Medical Center, a testament to his leadership in the medical community.

Continuously advancing his efforts, he was an initial member of the AOA/ACGME review committee for the Single Accreditation System. He has served in various leadership roles, including President of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association,  American Osteopathic Foundation, American College of Osteopathic Internists and the Consortium for Excellence in Medical Education (CEME), Nova Southeastern University, Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine for the State of Florida. Additionally, he has held positions such as the chair of the Florida Osteopathic Medical Association Delegation to the AOA House of Delegates. Dr Ottaviani is the Vice Chair of the Board of Governors of the Nova Southeastern University Health Profession Division and a memeber of the University’s Board of Trustees. 

With a passion for teaching, Dr. Ottaviani’s contributions extend beyond local institutions. He served as the Regional Dean for Nova Southeastern University West Coast Academic Center and holds the position of Clinical Professor of Medicine at Nova Southeastern University Kiran C. Patel College of Osteopathic Medicine.
